| Johnson, Laura Ruth |  | | Rockefeller Postdoctoral Fellow in Latino Studies at the University of Illinois, Chicago. | | | Laura Ruth Johnson recently received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in the Graduate School of Education, Division of Language & Literacy, Society & Culture. Her dissertation, entitled "History in our hands: Identity development, cultural ideologies of motherhood, and the critical practice of family literacy in Puerto Rican Chicago," explored the educational experiences and community and familial resources that young mothers attending the Family Learning Center utilized as they constructed identities as learners, women, mothers, Latinas, and as Puertorriquenas. Before attending graduate school, she was the director of the FamilyLearning Center for 5 years, and in the fall will begin a RockefellerPostdoctoral Fellowship in Latino Studies at the University of Illinois, Chicago. | |
