Welcome
This website has been created to support work on creating a community center at the Shadow Wood trailer park. The center would support family information and afterschool activities, among other things.

The website is open to the public and provides a way for everyone--Shadow Wood families and others--interested in Shadow Wood to share ideas and information, coordinate work, and keep in touch. Please post your contact info in the Address Book, add items to the Wish List, post upcoming events to the Calendar, use the Bulletin Board for discussion, upload and download files you wish to share in the Document Center, add bookmarks, etc.

If you need any assistance with this website or have questions about it, feel free to contact Ann Bishop (217-244-3299; abishop@uiuc.edu).

Shadow Wood Wish List
Use the Wish List to post resources (things, expertise, services) needed by the Shadow Wood community center, as well as to note or respond about resources you can provide. To respond about a particular item, click on the "comment" icon next to it; that is the the little blue speech bubble. Thanks!

Spanish Financial Education Class Offered 10/14/2005

A series of six, free classes taught in Spanish and based off the "Your Money and Your Life" curriculum.  The classes will be held at the current Shadow Wood Community Center and begin Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 6:00- 8:00 PM.  The classes will continue every Tuesday and Wednesday evening until November 2.  The class topics include budgeting, credit, predatory lending, and identity theft.  There will also be a class specifically for the needs of immigrants and how these individuals can obtain a checking account, learn about which identifications can be used at banks, and discover their basic financial rights.

At the end of the class, all of the graduates will be included in a drawing for a $50 savings bond.  We encourage individuals of all ages and academic backgrounds to attend the class.
